Named after the supermassive black hole at the centre of our galaxy, and it earns it. The blade is forged from Obsteel San Mai, an 80CrV2 core clad in nickel and 1020, and the nickel layer traces that unmistakable white line through the dark steel like light bending around something vast and heavy. The 80CrV2 core is a high-performance carbon steel, exceptional edge retention, superb sharpness, and the kind of cutting feel that changes how you work in the kitchen. At 245mm this is a serious chef's knife, built for the cook who means it.
The handle is London Plane burl, vivid figuring, warm tones, and a density that feels substantial in the hand. A brass spacer bridges the handle to the blade, picking up the warmth of the timber and grounding the whole knife visually. This one is as much an object as it is a tool.
